Many people say that this condition is incurable and that management of tinnitus is the only option left on the table. In this article, I’ll show you how to manage your condition and also offer you greater hope that you can relieve your tinnitus and even get rid of it.
Coping Strategies
The whole theory behind coping strategies is that there is nothing that you can do about the intensity of your symptoms and that you certainly cannot get rid of your tinnitus. It is argued that because tinnitus needs hearing damage and because the damage is irreversible then therefore so is the tinnitus. Bear this in mind for the next section when I disprove this theory.
The most popular coping strategy is called tinnitus retraining therapy. This involves two things.
First of all you must undergo counselling. It is intended to try to make you not be as nervous and overreact to your tinnitus. This is easier said than done obviously.
Secondly, you undergo what is called sound therapy. Basically a sound like white noise that is just under the volume of your tinnitus is played. With the counselling, you learn how to ignore this sound and put it to the back of your mind. When you have mastered this, you can easily put the tinnitus ringing sound to the back of your mind too.
Lifestyle Strategies
Ultimately, although you need hearing loss to get tinnitus, why is it then that not everyone who gets hearing loss will also get tinnitus?
The reason is that there are also a number of lifestyle co-factors.
To get relief from your tinnitus and gradually diminish the symptoms and even get rid of it altogether, you must look at each of these co-factors one by one until you have addressed them all.
For example, throw out your toothpaste and use a totally natural one. Modern toothpaste contains several ingredients that can cause both hearing loss and tinnitus.
You may or may not get improvement from that particular tip but what is important is that you must address every single factor. If you do this then you can definitely obtain permanent relief and in many cases totally cure yourself and be just like those others who have similarly damaged hearing but no tinnitus whatsoever.
